What's New in Veritas Enterprise Vault 14.5 Release

Veritas has announced version 14.5 for Enterprise Vault, its leading data archiving solution. With this new version, Veritas offers a number of improvements to its users. Let's take a look at these innovations together.
Consolidation of Elasticsearch Index Indices
As you know, Veritas has taken index performance to the next level with Enterprise Vault 14.2 by replacing Alta-Vista (32-Bit) and Velocity (64-Bit) indexing models with Elasticsearch. After the improvements made in the 14.4 version released in the past months, Veritas aims to take the indexing experience even further with the 14.5 version.
Unlike Alta-Vista and Velocity indexing models, Elasticsearch does not allow moving indexes to another Enterprise Vault server or consolidating index data from multiple servers on a single server in Enterprise Vault versions 14.2, 14.3 and 14.4. With version 14.5, users can move Elasticsearch index data to another Enterprise Vault server, which is a part of the same Site and Directory or consolidate index data from multiple Enterprise Vault servers on a single server.
Improvements to the Elasticsearch Snapshot Restore Mechanism
In versions prior to 14.5, Elasticsearch index snapshots did not include metadata for indexes. As a result, when restoring snapshots, verification and, in some scenarios, rebuilding of the index were required to make available the index data added after the snapshot was taken.
To put it more clearly, Elasticsearch index data contains a file named “State.dat”. This file contains information about the amount of data in the relevant index directory. In versions before 14.5 (14.2, 14.3, and 14.4), this file was not included in the backup when the indexes were backed up with a snapshot.
As a result, when the restore operation using snapshot was performed, Enterprise Vault could not compare and verify the number of items in the index with the number of items in the archive, since there was no "State.dat" file.
With 14.5, the “State.dat” file was added to the snapshot content and now, after a restore operation, Enterprise Vault compares the number of items in this file with the number of items in the archive, and automatically verifies if needed.
View – Only Administrator Role
With version 14.5, Veritas adds the View - Only Administrator role to the Role - Based Access (RBA) structure of the Enterprise Vault. With this new role, the user assigned the role will be able to read and see all the configurations in the product console, just like the service user, but will not be able to make any changes.
However, as I mentioned in our previous blog post, Enterprise Vault products with 12.x version, which are widely used, will reach the End of Support Life stage as of January 1, 2024 and it will be impossible to get technical support for these versions. For this reason, as Redington Turkey, we recommend that our users using the 12.x versions of the Enterprise Vault product update their product versions.

With our wishes with health and high-tech.
